Surrogacy in the Czech Republic

Many couples who, for various reasons, cannot have a child turn to specialized reproductive health centers. In the treatment of infertility, modern technologies are used, such as IVF, the use of donor biological materials, as well as surrogate motherhood programs. There are few countries in which the legislation allows the latter type of treatment, one of them is the Czech Republic. Seeing that since 2014 surrogacy in the Czech Republic is not only not prohibited, but also regulated by the Civil Code and other laws, many couples who are faced with infertility can contact Czech reproductive health agencies.

Often, women around the world are faced with the problem of conceiving a child in a natural way, the inability to carry pregnancy or give birth to a baby on their own. The problem may lie in the genetic characteristics of the body, serious diseases or other reasons.

The clinics have special service packages, the cost of which includes all the items of expenses that are specified in the contract. Clients will not be required to deposit any additional funds. In addition, the couple is provided with legal guarantees for parental rights when the newborn is handed over.

Throughout the entire period of pregnancy, the surrogate mother receives monthly payments for diagnostics, medications, food, transfer to the medical center and other needs that are indicated when issuing an official document. The cost of a surrogate mother in the Czech Republic includes the following expenses:

  • preparation of the body of the surrogate mother for the fertilization procedure;
  • embryo transfer procedure;
  • expenses related to pregnancy and childbirth;
  • surrogate mother’s fee.

On average, a couple wishing to participate in the program will need to pay between 45,000 and 60,000 euros. The price may vary depending on the number of fetuses – twins provide an additional financial reward. Also, the cost may be higher for the birth of a child by caesarean section.

Relation of the law to surrogacy

The legalization of the service by the Czech authorities dates back to 2014. Since this period, a new Civil Code has been in force in the country, according to which surrogate motherhood is not prohibited as a method of infertility treatment. At the same time, there are no clear orders in this field of medicine. Surrogate motherhood is allowed to be used if there are medical indications – the inability to independently conceive a child, carry it or give birth. A similar service is also available to single women, in which case the donor’s biological material is used.

Another important point is the process of handing over a born child to genetic parents. In this case, the surrogate mother writes a refusal, after which the couple submits documents for adoption. At the same time, if the surrogate mother does not consent to the transfer of the child to the biological parents, the law remains on her side. Therefore, when participating in the program, a couple is required to draw up an agreement that clearly indicates the obligations and rights of both parties, which will facilitate the process of handing over and registering a child.

Stages of surrogacy

The procedure of surrogate motherhood involves the transfer of the embryo of biological parents into the uterus of a surrogate mother. The success of the manipulation largely depends on the correct choice of the candidate. A woman who wants to bear a child for another couple for financial reward must comply with the following requirements:

  • age from 20 to 49 years;
  • physical and psychological health;
  • absence of abortions, caesarean sections and other gynecological interventions;
  • an own child

Before the start of the fertilization procedure, all participants in the program (surrogate mother, biological parents) are examined by several doctors: a general practitioner, gynecologist, reproductologist and others. In the absence of contraindications, the IVF procedure is carried out, including the following steps:

Collection of eggs and sperm from genetic parents

If necessary, donor biological material is used.

Cultivation of embryos and PGD

Checking of embryos for the presence of genetic abnormalitie

Transfer of embryos into the uterus of a woman

who has agreed to become a surrogate mother.

The first ultrasound

or blood test to assess the level of hCG and confirm pregnancy.

Monitoring the health of a woman

and the development of the fetus throughout pregnancy.

Clinics also have the opportunity to use additional services, in particular, choose the sex of the child or perform intracytoplasmic injection, morphological selection of spermatozoa for injection into the egg.

Why should you choose the Czech Republic to participate in surrogacy?

When choosing a surrogacy clinic, many Europeans and citizens of other continents often prefer the Czech Republic. The main advantage of Czech reproductive health centers is the provision of comfortable service conditions. Other advantages include:

  • The legality of the procedure at the legislative level, which facilitates the process of finding a surrogate mother, signing an agreement, registration of a born baby.
  • Professional medical care. Czech clinics have modern diagnostic and medical equipment for providing quality services, preventing possible complications during pregnancy or childbirth.
  • Relatively low cost in contrast to other countries, such as the United States.

The advantages also include the opportunity to use the service not only for couples who are married, but also for partners who have not officially formalized their relationship. Since the process of surrogacy in the Czech Republic is a rather complicated procedure, including from the legal side, all clients are provided with legal assistance to resolve issues related to the transfer of rights to a child.
